Jeff Gordon’s qualifying mark of 206.558 mph won him the pole for the 2014 Pure Michigan 400 race on Sunday, but he wasn’t the only one recording record-breaking speeds.
NASCAR Michigan 2014: Start time, TV schedule for Pure Michigan 400
Jeff Gordon’s record-setting qualifying mark will have him in solid position for the Pure Michigan 400 on Sunday.

A total of six drivers hit speeds of 205 mph or greater during qualifying for the Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway. It just so happened that Gordon is the new record-holder -- his time was the seventh-fastest qualifying speed in NASCAR history.
Gordon will be followed by last year’s winner, Joey Logano (206.381 mph), and Carl Edwards (206.115) on the two-mile oval track, but those three will have plenty of competition. Kevin Harvick, who finished second in the event last year, won the race in 2010. He led for 63 laps just two months ago at the Quicken Loans 400 before coming in second place to Jimmie Johnson, who could be another threat to pull off a victory despite his recent struggles.
