Ryan Truex will not race in Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400 after suffering a concussion in a practice crash at Michigan International Speedway.
2014 Pure Michigan 400: Concussion sidelines Ryan Truex
An injury sustained in a practice crash has knocked Ryan Truex out of Sunday’s Michigan NASCAR race.

The rookie for BK Racing lost control of his Toyota in the first of two Saturday practices and hit the Turn 2 wall head-on. The contact was such that it lifted the rear wheels of the No. 83 car off the ground. Truex removed himself from his severely damaged car and walked to an awaiting ambulance. He was then transported to a local medical facility after complaining of a headache and a sore shoulder.
“Truex was transported to a local hospital where he underwent CT scans of his head, neck, chest and abdomen, which were all negative,” the team said in a statement.
BKR selected veteran J.J. Yeley to drive its No. 83 entry Sunday.
Truex’s status is undetermined for next weekend’s race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Per NASCAR’s concussion policy implemented at the beginning of the season, Truex will have to complete an imPACT baseline concussion test and receive medical clearance before getting back behind the wheel.
The 2-mile Michigan oval is NASCAR’s fastest track. Jeff Gordon captured the pole position with a speed of 206.558 mph -- a new track record -- in qualifying Friday. Truex (201.263) qualified 31st.
