In front and pulling away, Kyle Busch looked to have the Nationwide Series race in hand Friday night at Bristol Motor Speedway. However, a caution and subsequent restart with six laps to go changed that.
NASCAR Nationwide Series at Bristol Motor Speedway results: Ryan Blaney gets the jump on Kyle Busch
Propelled by a better restart than Kyle Busch, Ryan Blaney won the Nationwide Series race Friday night at Bristol.

Positioned in the upper groove, Busch was a bit hesitant on the deciding restart, allowing second-place Ryan Blaney to surge ahead. It was a lead Blaney would not relinquish.
“Kyle didn’t go on that last restart -- he said his tires were jacked up (off the ground) -- so I went and we were able to hold him off,” Blaney said. “What a heck of a race, we won at Bristol.”
A full-time competitor in the Camping World Truck Series, Blaney is running a part-time Nationwide schedule for Team Penske. The win was Blaney’s second career series victory and the fourth overall for the No. 22 Penske team this season (Brad Keselowski has the others).
Busch seemed set to win at Bristol for the fourth straight race, until the final caution setup the restart that allowed Blaney to grab the lead. A displeased Busch said Blaney was intentionally lying back, which NASCAR prohibits. Officials determined the pass was legal, as the second-place car is allowed to pass the leader once in the restart zone.
“The leader is at the biggest disadvantage on restarts,” Busch said. “I go when I want to go, but everybody else is pushing me and my wheels are off the ground and I can’t go anywhere.”
As Blaney was in front, Busch was able to get to the back of his bumper, but was unable to get alongside. Both drivers got loose over the final couple laps, but Blaney held on.
“I was driving my guts out trying to stay ahead of him,” Blaney said.
Series points leader Chase Elliott finished third with Ty Dillon fourth and Regan Smith fifth. Elliot, a rookie, holds a 13-point advantage over Smith, his teammate at JR Motorsports. Dillon is ranked third, 17 points back.
