NASCAR at Atlanta 2014: Another weekend threat of rain

NASCAR can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to the weather forecast. While we got through Bristol with minor weather problems, rain is once again in the forecast for Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend.

Another NASCAR race weekend and another threat of rain showers and thunderstorms. The main threat is of scattered showers and thunderstorms both Saturday afternoon and evening and again on Sunday. The only real washout threat I have is possibly Saturday evening as a weak system moves through the region. Showers and storms will form late in the day Saturday and continue into the evening. I give the odds of racing Saturday night around 60 percent for the Nationwide Series. This is a challenging forecast because it all comes down to where the storms form and where they move.

While similar, the forecast for Sunday is a little drier than Saturday. Threat of scattered showers remains into the afternoon and evening but the storms could be more hit or miss. I’m keeping odds of racing Sunday between 70 and 75 percent. The odds may be a little too low, but there is still a lot of uncertainty in the data for Sunday. If it were me and know what I know right now, I’d still plan on going to this Sunday’s race.
