NASCAR Chicago 2014: Lineup, starting grid for MyAfibStory.com 400

A rainstorm washed out qualifying, but not before a lone practice session determined the starting grid for the first race of the 2014 Chase, the MyAfibStory.com 400 at Chicagoland Speedway.

The revamped Chase for the Sprint Cup is off and running, even if qualifying for its first race -- the MyAfibStory.com 400 at Chicagoland Speedway -- was rained out. The starting lineup, led by Kyle Busch, was instead determined by times during the sole practice session run before the rains set in.

With the forecast for a storm well-known, most teams made adjustments typically done after practice sessions beforehand. They hoped to give their drivers a chance to post their best times early if qualifying ended up being called off, like it was. As Ryan Newman -- who qualified second -- told the Associated Press, “We definitely saw the radar and the forecast. Made one (practice) run and switched it over, spent the rest of the time doing mock qualifying runs, knowing we had a chance of that being our actual qualifying position.”

It looks like it worked out the way they had hoped.
