NASCAR standings 2014: Richmond win gives Brad Keselowski No. 1 Chase seed

The Chase field is set and Brad Keselowski will enter the playoffs atop the standings.

On the strength of a series-best four victories, Brad Keselowski earned the No. 1 seed in the Chase for the Sprint Cup, which begins Sunday at Chicagoland Speedway.

Keselowski’s most recent win came on Saturday night in a dominating performance where he led 383 of 400 laps in the regular season finale at Richmond International Raceway. The victory broke a tie with Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Joey Logano and Jimmie Johnson, all of whom collected three victories.

“I’m very proud of the result that comes from a win and what it means to the bigger picture of having the first seed entering the Chase,” Keselowski said. “That’s really something. We want to keep that going as we get through this next 10 weeks.”

All 16 Chase qualifiers are reseeded with each driver receiving three bonus points per victory. Keselowski garnered 12 additional points, with Gordon, Earnhardt, Logano and Johnson collecting nine extra points.

Three drivers (Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle and Ryan Newman) made the playoffs but failed to win during the 26-race regular season. Accordingly, Kenseth, Biffle and Newman will begin the Chase ranked 14th, 15th and 16th, respectively.

“I wish we had some wins piled up and I wish we ended tonight on a high note, but the next 10 weeks are the important ones,” Kenseth said. “I think we’re ready to go racing as hard as we can and see where it ends up.”
