NASCAR Charlotte 2015 results: Joey Logano wins Bank of America 500

Logano’s win clinches him a spot in the third round of NASCAR’s playoffs.

Joey Logano drove flawlessly to win the rain-delayed Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on a Sunday afternoon when several playoff contenders experienced myriad issues.

Logano led a race-high 227 laps and won comfortably over Kevin Harvick in the first of three Round 2 races in NASCAR’s Chase for the Sprint Cup championship playoff. By winning, Logano automatically advances to the next round.

Martin Truex, Denny Hamlin and Kurt Busch completed the top five finishers. Rounding out the top 10 were Carl Edwards, Austin Dillon, Jeff Gordon, Brad Keselowski and Aric Almirola. Of the top 10, only Dillon and Almirola are not among the 12 remaining Chase drivers.

Kyle Busch, Matt Kenseth and Dale Earnhardt Jr. saw their championship hopes take hits, as each experienced problems. Busch collided with Kyle Larson under caution at the entrance to pit road and finished 20th. Earnhardt suffered body damage following scraps with the wall, which led to tire-related issues throughout. He finished 28th. And Kenseth’s eventful day concluded with him finishing 42nd after blowing a tire and crashing hard into the Turn 4 wall.
