Jeff Gordon celebrates Martinsville victory like it’s his first win ever

Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

After announcing before the season even began it would be his final season, Jeff Gordon hadn’t won a Sprint Cup race all season. Until Sunday at Martinsville, Virginia. With the victory Gordon will enter the final race at Miami-Homestead Speedway three weeks from now with a chance to claim a fifth Sprint Cup championship.

“Oh my gosh. This is one of the most memorable experiences of victory that I can ever remember,” Gordon told NBCSN after the race. “My final year. My final run at Martinsivlle. The meaning behind this win. What was on the line. How we had to do it.”

From the fist pumps to running and leaping into the arms of his crew to the emotion in his voice as he yelled, “WE’RE GOING TO HOMESTEAD!” upon taking the checkered flag, it was as emotional as we’ve ever seen him.
