Taking no chances, Chris Buescher exercised patience to secure the Xfinity Series championship Saturday at Homestead-Miami Speedway, 13 points over runner-up Chase Elliott.

Sound strategy propels Chris Buescher to championship in NASCAR’s No. 2 division.

Kyle Larson won the Ford EcoBoost 300. Austin Dillon finished second, followed by Erik Jones, Brian Scott and Ryan Blaney.
Buescher entered Homestead holding an 18-point lead ahead of Elliott, the 2014 Xfinity champion, needing to finish 13th or better to clinch his first title. For much of the afternoon, Buescher ran right around 10th, as challengers Ty Dillon and Elliott never were able to mount a necessary push toward the front.
Dillon finished seventh, Elliott eighth, and Buescher 11th. The second-year driver for Roush Fenway Racing led the standings for 23 consecutive weeks.
“I am not a points racer,” Buescher said. “I don’t like it. It is not the most fun way to run the last 10 races of the season but it is important. This is what we have been fighting for since February and Daytona and these guys have done such a great job and stuck in there with us all year and had no mechanical failures.”
Larson led a race-high 118 laps, but needed to pass Austin Dillon with four circuits remaining for his third career Xfinity win.
Daniel Suarez finished sixth and was named Rookie of the Year.
