Denny Hamlin selling ‘Free Matt’ T-shirts in support of Matt Kenseth

Sales of the shirts benefit Hamlin’s charitable foundation.

Denny Hamlin has been quite vocal in his support of Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Matt Kenseth, who was handed an unprecedented two-race suspension Tuesday for intentionally crashing Joey Logano last weekend at Martinsville Speedway.

Hamlin’s defense of Kenseth now consists of selling T-shirts featuring Kenseth’s likeness with the slogan “Free Matt.” All proceeds generated will go toward the Denny Hamlin Foundation, which raises awareness and funds for the specific needs of children with cystic fibrosis.

Kenseth was 10 laps down when he targeted and took out Logano at Martinsville. Because Logano was leading and would have advanced to the championship race with a victory, NASCAR suspended Kenseth two races, making him the first premier division driver ever to ever be parked multiple events for an on-track offense.

Hamlin shared a photo on social media of himself wearing a different T-shirt with the hashtag “Free Matt” Thursday. The popularity of that tweet presumably spurred the idea to sell shirts both as a way to support Kenseth and raise money for Hamlin’s foundation.
