Tony Stewart blames Dale Earnhardt Jr. for wreck

Tony Stewart and Dale Earnhardt Jr. faulted the other for a wreck that knocked Stewart out of Sunday’s NASCAR race.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. left Tony Stewart fuming and throwing his helmet in frustration, while Earnhardt blamed Stewart for an incident between the two during Sunday’s NASCAR race at Richmond International Raceway.

The two were racing for position with 40 laps remaining in the Toyota Owners 400 when they made contact, which sent Stewart spinning. Stewart finished 41st after he couldn’t re-fire his Chevrolet.

Earnhardt continued with minimal damage, though he had a noticeable tire mark where Stewart hit him. He would finish 14th.

“F***ing Dale Jr.,” Stewart radioed his team.

But Earnhardt said Stewart was actually at fault and drifted up the track and into Earnhardt, who trying to clear Justin Allgaier. The accident occurred shortly after a restart with the field tightly bunched together.

“I don’t know (what happened),” Earnhardt said. “You’ll have to ask him. He hit me in the left-rear quarter-panel. I was trying to clear the No. 51 on the outside of me, so I was as high as I could go. So, you’ll just have to ask him.”

Stewart left Richmond without comment. He was shown throwing his helmet and head-and-neck restraint device into the No. 14 team’s hauler in obvious frustration.
