Brett Moffitt lands full-time ride with Front Row Motorsports

Moffitt will drive Front Row Motorsports’ No. 34 car for the rest of the season.

NASCAR’s game of musical drivers’ seats continued Wednesday with Front Row Motorsports naming Brett Moffitt to wheel its No. 34 car for the remainder of the season.

The move is essentially a swap of drivers, with Moffitt replacing David Ragan, who had replaced Moffitt last week at Michael Waltrip Racing. Originally Ragan was to drive the No. 34 car full time this season, but left the team when Joe Gibbs Racing needed someone to substitute for the injured Kyle Busch, who returns this weekend after missing the first 11 races of the season.

With Busch set to come back from a broken right leg and left foot, Ragan joined MWR, which had been utilizing Moffitt as a fill-in for regular driver Brian Vickers, who is sidelined indefinitely with a reoccurrence of blood clots.

MWR wanted someone with more experience than the 22-year-old rookie who’s never ran a full season in one of NASCAR’s three national touring series. Since Moffitt finished eighth in his Sprint Cup Series debut, he hasn’t had a result better than 17th.

Moffitt is a MWR developmental driver and still under contract to the team. Front Row is essentially loaning Moffitt for the rest of the 2015 season.

“I am excited for the opportunity to be in a Sprint Cup car on a weekly basis,” Moffitt said. “The most important thing for me at this point of my career is seat time, going to some of these tracks that are new to me, and racing around 42 other drivers in race conditions. And the more time I spend in the 34 car and with this team, the more competitive we’ll get. And I think that consistency will lead to some good finishes.”
