NASCAR All-Star Race 2015: Danica Patrick wins fan vote

After 19 drivers raced their way into the NASCAR All-Star Race, the fans had their say about just who was missing.

Fans picked Danica Patrick to be the final driver in the 2015 NASCAR All-Star Race, which will be held Saturday at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Patrick also won the fan vote in 2013.

Patrick finished in ninth in the Sprint Showdown on Friday night after qualifying for the race in eighth. This has been a bit of a renaissance year for her, although news came out earlier in the season that her long-running sponsor, GoDaddy.com, will not renew its contract with her team after this year. She’s had a pair of top-10 finishes, including seventh at Martinsville and ninth at Bristol.

The field Saturday will feature 20 cars. Seventeen were already locked in, with drivers who won races in 2014 or 2015 earning automatic berths as well as former Sprint Cup champions and former All-Star Race winners. Two more, Greg Biffle and Clint Bowyer, raced their way in Friday night during the Sprint Cup Showdown. Fan voting closed before the Showdown even began, but the winner was announced in Victory Lane afterward.

Coverage of the All-Star Race begins 8:30 p.m. ET on Fox Sports 1 Saturday. The green flag is scheduled to fly at approximately 9:18 p.m.
