Eleven races into the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup season, the circuit moves to Charlotte Motor Speedway this week for the annual All-Star Race. Although some would argue the race is a relic from a different era, the non-points race gives teams and fans alike a chance to see a little different format, with the idea of having some fun without worrying about the points implications.
NASCAR All-Star Race 2015: Start time, TV schedule and live stream for Saturday
Twenty drivers will line up for the annual non-points All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The field is cut by half from its normal 43 drivers -- just 20 will line in the starting grid Saturday night. There were five ways to qualify, but the easiest came via the same mantra that gets a team into the Chase for the Sprint Cup: win and you’re in. So you’ll find frequent winners like Jimmie Johnson, Brad Keselowski and 2015 Sprint Cup champ Kevin Harvick, as well as the always popular Dale Earnhardt Jr -- who won five races of his own since the start of 2014 -- or Jeff Gordon, winner of four. Any driver who won a race in the 2014 or 2015 seasons automatically qualified. In addition, one former Sprint Cup champion (Tony Stewart) and two former All-Star Race drivers (Jamie McMurray, Ryan Newman) earned berths.
Another driver you’ll see is Kyle Busch. After suffering a compound fracture in his leg as well as a broken foot in a frightening crash at Daytona in February, Busch has not driven in a race this season. He will make his debut on Saturday, but has already put up the fastest time in practice, showing he hasn’t lost a step.
The final three had to work a bit this week to gain their entrance. Greg Biffle, who had a fast car in both practice and Sprint Showdown qualifying, won the first segment of the Showdown Friday night in blowout fashion. This marks his 12th start in the race. Clint Bowyer took the second qualifying segment after making a three-wide pass coming out of a yellow flag. He was unchallenged for the rest of the race, winning it for a second straight year for his seventh All-Star Race start. The final spot went to Danica Patrick, who won the fan vote for the first time since 2013.
The All-Star Race itself features four 25-lap segments, which average finishing spot in those segments used to determine the running order ahead of a mandatory four-tire pit stop. The order of the cars returning to the track sets the starting order for a final 10-lap sprint to the finish.
