Jeff Gordon is bringing back his iconic rainbow paint scheme in his final Sprint Cup Series season before he retires at the end of the year.
Jeff Gordon to race rainbow paint scheme one final time before retiring
The No. 24 car will carry a familiar look during the August night race at Bristol.

Of all the different paint schemes that have adorned the No. 24 car throughout Gordon’s career, the rainbow scheme is the one most commonly associated with him. He ran the design from 1992-2000 when he won 3-of-4 Cup Series championships and 52 of his 92 career series victories.

— Jeff Gordon (@JeffGordonWeb) June 30, 2015 Gordon will run the Axalta-sponsored rainbow scheme Aug. 22 at Bristol Motor Speedway’s annual night race. He revealed the news on Tuesday during an appearance on CBS This Morning, and credited the fans for pushing that he run the scheme one last time before he retires.
“It’s such an iconic paint scheme, it’s what I got introduced to NASCAR with,” Gordon said. “Fans, especially young fans, were attracted to this car because it was so bright it always stood out.
“The reason we’re bringing it out is because of Twitter, Facebook and social media -- they (fans) want this car out on the track. It’s exciting for them and it’s exciting for me to drive it again.”
