NASCAR weather Darlington Raceway 2015: Hit or miss showers and storms

Chance of showers and storms are in the forecast for both the Xfinity series and Sprint Cup series races this weekend but will these showers cause issues on Saturday and Sunday?

The weather forecast for Darlington Raceway this weekend is a challenging one. It’s not like other forecasts where we track a storm or a font that will bring a period of rain or storms to the area. Here we are dealing with afternoon pop-up showers and storms both on Saturday and Sunday. Forecasting scattered showers and storms is like trying to accurately predict which kernels of popcorn will pop and when it will pop as you’re making popcorn.

That is what we will be dealing with both Saturday and Sunday afternoon and evening -- showers and storms popping up. While I don’t anticipate a washout for either the Xfinity or Sprint Cup races, there could be possible delays. It just takes one or two of these storms to move over the track for a delay in the action.

Overall, I give the odds of racing this weekend to be better than 80 percent.
