NASCAR Kansas 2016 results: Kevin Harvick wins Hollywood Casino 400

Harvick’s victory earns him a spot in the third round of NASCAR’s playoffs.

Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

A resolute Kevin Harvick powered by leader Carl Edwards on a restart with 30 laps remaining to win Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway.

Harvick restarted second alongside Edwards and stayed even entering Turn 1 where he was then able to nose ahead off Turn 2 and down the backstretch. Edwards could never run Harvick back down and finished second.

Joey Logano placed third, followed by Jimmie Johnson in fourth and Kyle Busch in fifth. Completing the top 10 were Austin Dillon, Alex Bowman, AJ Allmendinger, Matt Kenseth and Kasey Kahne.

“I was able to break that draft before I got to the middle of [Turns] 1 and 2 and get away from him, so that was pretty awesome,” Harvick said. “I just needed to go for it.”

With the victory Harvick joins Johnson, who won last weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway, in automatically transferring to the third round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup. The six other spots in the eight-driver semifinal bracket will be determined amongst the remaining 10 title-eligibles following next weekend’s elimination race at Talladega Superspeedway.
