NASCAR Phoenix 2016: Start time, TV schedule, and live stream for Can-Am 500

All the pertinent info you need to know regarding today’s NASCAR race at Phoenix, the second-to-last event of the season.

Jimmie Johnson’s and Carl Edwards’ spots in the final are secure. As for who will join them in next week’s championship race, that will be decided Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway. Six drivers -- Joey Logano, Kyle Busch, Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, and Kurt Busch -- are competing for the final two berths.

Because of the respective points deficits they face, Harvick (18 points behind) and Kurt Busch (-34) essentially must win the Can-Am 500, as any other finish will result in their elimination. As for Logano, Kyle Busch, Kenseth, and Hamlin, they can still advance via points.

Start time: Retired boxer Vinny Paz, whose life is the subject of the upcoming film Bleed for This, will instruct drivers to fire their engines at 2:35 p.m. ET, with the penultimate race of the season going green at 2:44 p.m.

Distance: Drivers will circle the 1-mile desert track 312 laps, totaling 500 kilometers.

National anthem: Sgt. 1st Class Dana Fischl and the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Corps Band out of Fort Huachuca, Ariz., will perform the national anthem.

TV/Radio/Stream coverage: NBC will carry the television broadcast with its coverage beginning at 2 p.m. ET. The network will also provide a stream at NBCSports.com. Motor Racing Network will handle the radio broadcast, with SiriusXM NASCAR simulcasting MRN’s coverage.

Defending race winner: Ninety-three laps short of the scheduled distance, heavy rain forced NASCAR to declare the race official, with Dale Earnhardt Jr. awarded the victory. Earnhardt is continuing to recover from a concussion sustained in June and will miss Sunday’s race, but his replacement, Alex Bowman, captured the pole in qualifying on Friday.
