The NASCAR Sprint Cup season reaches its climax on Sunday with the final race in the Chase for the Cup. Joey Logano, Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson, and Kyle Busch (last year’s winner) are all competing for the ultimate prize when they fight for the title in the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
NASCAR Homestead 2016: Start time, TV schedule, and live stream for Ford EcoBoost 400
The 2016 Sprint Cup champion will be crowned on Sunday, while Tony Stewart wraps up his final race. It’s all setting up to be an exciting day of action at Homestead.
Logano, Edwards, Johnson, and Busch are the final four racers standing after last week’s race at Phoenix trimmed the Chase field down from eight. Logano took home the checkered flag, his fourth victory of the season. Kevin Harvick, Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin, and Matt Kenseth were all eliminated from contention, although Harvick got some measure of consolation by winning the pole position for this week’s race.
Kyle Busch won last year’s race at Homestead and has the best starting position out of the Cup contenders, going in ninth place and sharing a row with Edwards, who’s starting 10th. Logano and Johnson are just two rows back at 13th and 14th, respectively. Whoever finishes in the highest place takes home the trophy, so it should be plenty intriguing to watch these veterans jockey for position near the head of the pack all day.
The title chase isn’t the only major storyline heading into Homestead. This is also Tony Stewart’s final race, as he announced his retirement after the Sprint Cup season. The 45-year-old wraps up an impressive career, having won NASCAR’s top prize three times (2002, 2005, and 2011). His 2016 season has been derailed by injuries, but Stewart did manage a win at Sonoma in June. He’ll certainly be looking to go out with one more victory under his belt.
