NASCAR Homestead 2016: Lineup, starting grid for Ford EcoBoost 400

Kevin Harvick sits on the pole in the final Sprint Cup race of the season.

The 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup season wraps up on Sunday with the Ford EcoBoost 400 from Homestead-Miami Speedway. Kevin Harvick won the pole position, but the race’s real intrigue lies in the four drivers competing for the Sprint Cup Championship.

The four men still left in the Chase for the Cup are Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, and Jimmie Johnson. Friday’s qualifying run had plenty of intrigue, with the chasers trying to get a leg up heading into the season’s final race. But they all slipped up in their own ways.

Edwards, Busch, and Logano easily cruised to Round 2 of qualifying, but Johnson found himself in trouble after a poor first run, finishing well outside of the top 24. His second run barely got going, as a caution flag was forced after Landon Cassill spun out on the track. Fortunately after the track was cleared, Johnson had a much-improved run and barely got over the cut line, averting complete disaster as he pursues his seventh Sprint Cup title.

In Round 2, Logano and Johnson fell below the cut line after two middling runs, eliminating them from Round 3 and putting them well behind Edwards and Busch in the starting lineup. They’ll start from the same row at 13th and 14th, respectively.

Things got even more interesting in the final round when Edwards and Busch stumbled to poor times and missed out on the top five. They’ll also be racing in the same row at ninth and 10th place, respectively. Harvick will be starting at pole, with Brad Keselowski joining him in the first row.
