Clint Bowyer is seeking $2.2 million from HScott Motorsports in a lawsuit filed in North Carolina Superior Court on Nov. 21, ESPN.com reported Monday.
Clint Bowyer files $2.2 million lawsuit against HScott Motorsports
Bowyer alleges the NASCAR team missed two monthly payments and owes him commission related to sponsorship obtainment.

Bowyer alleges HSM owner Harry Scott missed two monthly payments and a commission bonus for sponsorship that Bowyer brought to the NASCAR Cup Series organization from Michael Waltrip Racing, Bowyer’s employer from 2012-15 that shut down after the conclusion of the 2015 season.
The lawsuit, according to ESPN.com, states Scott missed payments to Bowyer on Oct. 20 and Nov. 20 for a total of $1.2 million. Bowyer also claims he’s owed “at least” $1 million in commission related to sponsors 5-Hour Energy, AAA Insurance, Maxwell House, Peak, and Visine shifting from MWR to HSM.
“[Scott and the team] are in financial distress and in negotiations with various creditors to settle substantial debts ... all the while [they] refuse to pay [Bowyer] for services performed,” the complaint states, according to ESPN.com.
HSM spokesperson Ramsey Poston called the lawsuit “frivolous and capricious” in a statement to SB Nation. Poston also said neither AAA nor Maxwell House sponsored Bowyer’s No. 15 car in any race during the 2016 season.
“It is also important to know that Mr. Scott has used personal resources to loan money to the race team to support it, and to allege that he has taken money out of the race team is simply false,” Poston said. “Mr. Scott and the team will aggressively defend itself and will ultimately prevail.”
Bowyer drove the entirety of the 2016 season for HSM as a one-year stopgap, having already secured a ride with Stewart-Haas Racing for 2017 where he will replace the retiring Tony Stewart. Bowyer scored three top-10 finishes in 36 races during the recently completed 2016 season, finishing a career-low 27th in points.
