What you need to know for today’s Sprint Cup race at Texas.

Of the eight remaining drivers in NASCAR’s playoff, only Jimmie Johnson is guaranteed to be one of the four to transfer to the championship race in two weeks. He earned his automatic advancement by winning last weekend at Martinsville Speedway, and another title-eligible driver can solidify their spot with a victory Sunday.
Start time: Actor Dennis Quaid is the grand marshal and he will give the command for drivers to fire their engines at 2:08 p.m. ET, with the green flag to wave at 2:16 p.m. ET.
Distance: The scheduled distance calls for drivers to complete 334 laps (501 miles) around the high-speed 1.5-mile track. But with rain a possibility, note that NASCAR considers a race official once it reaches the halfway point, which is 168 laps at Texas.
National anthem: The U.S. Army 1st Cavalry Division Band will perform “The Star Spangled Banner.”
TV/Radio/Stream coverage: NBCSN will carry the television broadcast with its coverage beginning at 1:30 p.m. ET. The network will also provide a stream at NBCSports.com. Motor Racing Network will handle the radio broadcast, with SiriusXM NASCAR simulcasting MRN’s coverage.
Defending race winner: Johnson passed a dominant Brad Keselowski, who led a race-high 312 laps, with four laps remaining to win. It was Johnson’s fourth consecutive victory in the fall Texas race.
