Outside of the Daytona 500 I am not sure there has been a more anticipated weather forecast than the Geico 500 at Talladega Super Speedway. I had people asking about the ‘Dega weather forecast weeks in advance. Unfortunately, this is a challenging weather forecast with showers and storms possible on Sunday.
NASCAR at Talladega Superspeedway 2016: How will rain impact Sunday’s race?
All eyes are on the weather forecast leading up to Sunday’s Geico 500 Sprint Cup race at Talladega Super Speedway. Rain has been in the forecast all week for Sunday. Will the rain be a problem for NASCAR? The NASCAR Weatherman Brian Neudorff has your forecast.

Friday is the best day of the whole NASCAR weekend at Talladega Super Speedway. It will be mostly sunny and warm with temperatures getting into the upper 80s.
Saturday will be mostly dry with clouds and sunshine. It won’t be as hot as Friday as highs will drop back into the low 80s. There is chance of an isolated storm or two but the likelihood is low. Odds of racing the Xfinity race on Saturday is 85 percent.
For the last several days, all eyes have been on Sunday’s forecast with the threat of showers and storms. There is a lot of weather information out there and people have been asking me not only about Sunday’s weather but assuming Sunday was a wash and asking about Monday. I haven’t put out a Monday forecast yet cause I don’t think Sunday is a wash. But possible showers and storms are likely with a system trying to work into Alabama.
The reason this is such a challenging weather forecast is that a cold front trying to work into Alabama could stall, and where it stalls Saturday night into Sunday could mean the difference between racing and a washout. At this point from all the data I am seeing, I am going for scattered hit-and-miss showers and storms Sunday afternoon around Talladega Super Speedway. This means we could have some delays but I think we can race and at least get an official race complete (getting to halfway). The odds of racing Sunday and getting an official race is around 65 percent. Odds of a complete race is maybe around 50 percent, mostly due to the uncertainty on the location of the cold front come Sunday morning. Will continue to monitor and update.
