2016 NASCAR at Dover International Speedway weather forecast: Rain to start the weekend

Rain showers are expected at the Monster Mile Friday and Saturday but will the wet trend continue into Sunday’s AAA 400 Drive for Autism?

Two weather systems will work across Delaware Friday and Saturday bringing with it showers and possible thunderstorms and showers on the afternoon of both days. Friday’s showers look like they will arrive sometimes between noon and 2 p.m. and end between 4 or 6 p.m. ET. Some showers could produce heavy downpours. Timing of the rain could impact Truck and Sprint Cup Qualifying.

As for the Truck Series race Friday afternoon, sunset is around 8:06 p.m. there are no lights at Dover so it really comes down to timing of when the rain ends and how soon they can get the track dried. If the rain doesn’t end until 6 p.m. it could force the truck race to be rescheduled. Odds of racing the Truck race Friday afternoon/evening are around 30 to 40 percent.

Fortunately Saturday is not as wet as Friday with the timing of showers and storms arriving more towards the late afternoon and early evening. While there could be a chance of a shower or storm there may be more windows of opportunity. Odds of racing the Xfinity Race in the afternoon Saturday are around 60 percent.

Main weather concern for Sunday will be cooler temperatures and gust winds. There will be plenty of sunshine but temperatures will be 10 degrees cooler in the low 60s and winds will be out of the west between 10 to 20 mph and gusts could reach 30 mph.
