2016 NASCAR Michigan weekend weather forecast: Less rain than previous weekends

The overall weather forecast for Michigan International Speedway is drier than the past few weekends but there are still some rain chances.

The good news for the NASCAR weekend at Michigan International Speedway is it is mostly dry. The bad news is there are rain chances over the weekend, all of which are on Saturday during the afternoon for practice and the Xfinity race. Not only is there a chance for isolated to scattered showers and storms but it will be hot. Temperatures will get into the 90s and with the heat index, it will feel like the middle to upper 90s.

While washout is not expected for the Xfinity Series race, a delay can’t be ruled out. I think the odds of racing the Xfinity race is between 60 and 70 percent but also think a storm is possible. Like Pocono last weekend, some storms that form could be potentially severe as there is an isolated risk for strong storms with damaging winds, hail and frequent lightning.

If you are going to the race, here are some lightning safety tips provided by the National Weather Service. Bottom line: If you hear thunder you should immediately seek shelter from a storm with lightning.

Severe Threat Saturday June Michigan

The really good news for the NASCAR weekend at Michigan is that Sunday is mostly sunny, cooler and mostly sunny. No Monday race for the teams, fans and drivers this weekend.
