2016 NASCAR Pocono weekend weather forecast: Remaining wet with possible severe storms

Sunday remains wet but there is now a threat for severe thunderstorms. Fans need to be weather aware this weekend at Pocono Raceway.

No improvement in the NASCAR weather forecast for Pocono Raceway this weekend, especially Sunday. While Saturday will be mostly dry there is an increasing chance of showers and storms in the afternoon and evening.

Saturday could start off with some fog for the Xfinity series qualifying around 9 a.m. Once the fog lifts we will have clouds and sunshine. There is a chance of showers and storms near the end of the Xfinity race. Any shower or storm should be scattered in nature and best time looks to be near the end of the race.

Sunday remains wet and I don’t feel very optimistic. We will see rain arrive Saturday night into Sunday morning but I don’t anticipate much of a break before the next round of rain and storms arrive Sunday afternoon. The other concern with the weather Sunday could be severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and of course lightning. It’s been almost four years since a fan lost their life due to a lightning strike after a race at Pocono Raceway. If you are going to the race, here are some lightning safety tips provided by the National Weather Service. Bottom line: If you hear thunder you should immediately seek shelter from a storm with lightning.
