NASCAR at Pocono Monday race day weather, if necessary

The Axalta “We Paint Winners” 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race has been postponed to Monday, here’s the forecast.

As of 2 p.m EDT Sunday, NASCAR postponed the Axalta “We Paint Winners” 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race to Monday at noon EDT.

For those still at the track Sunday into Monday there is a threat of severe weather Sunday afternoon.

Sunday NASCAR Pocono Severe Threat

THREAT OF SEVERE STORMS
It’s bad enough we are dealing with rain at Pocono Raceway but with the rain comes a threat of severe storms Sunday afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center has Pocono Raceway somewhere between a slight and enhanced risk for severe thunderstorms. The main threat with storms that form Sunday afternoon around Pocono Raceway are damaging straight-line winds, hail, heavy rain, and numerous lightning strikes. Any fans going to the race Sunday need to be weather aware. If you hear thunder you need to seek shelter immediately from lightning. It’s possible a severe thunderstorm watch could be issued for the track later in the day Sunday. That means severe thunderstorms are possible but not necessarily that they have formed or are threatening the track. It’s the severe thunderstorm warning that will be issued if a severe storm is imminent or is occurring.

After the August 2012 incident where a fan was struck by lightning and killed at Pocono Raceway after the Sprint Cup race, I want NASCAR fans to be prepared and stay safe while at the track.

WHAT IS MONDAY’S FORECAST?
