2016 Race day NASCAR weather at the Brickyard: Remaining hot and humid

It will be hot and humid for Sunday’s Crown Royal 400 at the Brickyard, but with all that heat and steam will there be showers and storms to deal with during the race?

It has been an extremely hot NASCAR weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the NASCAR Xfinity Race and Sunday’s Sprint Cup race. Temperatures were reported getting above 130 degrees inside of the Xfinity race cars. Unfortunately, the heat and humid for fans, teams and drivers will remain on Sunday.

A heat advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday for Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Afternoon temperatures will be in the low 90s but with high dew points it will feel like 100 to 105 with the heat index. It will be important for fans to find ways to stay cool and hydrated. I know for many race fans the choice of beverage is usually alcoholic, but in situations like Sunday it would be best advised to stay away for the sake of health and hydration.

Along with the heat and humidity there is a chance of a thunderstorm but the likelihood is becoming less and less. The odds of getting a complete dry race on Sunday at the Brickyard is around 85 to 90 percent with just a small chance of an isolated storm or two. I am not particularly worried about storms during the race on Sunday but the radar will need to be watched.
