2016 NASCAR Pocono race day weather forecast, take two

Rain postponed the Pennsylvania 400 at Pocono Raceway on Sunday. Rain and mist formed during the morning and made it difficult to get the track dry. Sunday’s forecast was very difficult cause there were locations during the day within 15 to 25 miles of the track that didn’t see as much rain or any rain. Had the rain formed in a different location we may have been able to race.

Unfortunately for NASCAR the same weather pattern that kept Pocono wet on Sunday could bring more rain to the region on Monday. The earlier start time for the race (11 a.m. ET) should help NASCAR avoid some of the weather. That’s if we don’t have too much of an issue with fog, mist and morning rain.

If there’s no rain, mist or fog to deal at Pocono Raceway Monday morning we should get started on time .The odds of starting Monday’s Pennsylvania 400 and making it official (at least halfway) is around 55 to 65 percent.

Widespread scattered showers and storms are possible as we head into the afternoon on Monday. That is why my focus is getting to halfway then any laps after that in my opinion are bonus. Odds of getting a complete race in at Pocono Raceway on Monday is between 40 to 50 percent.

I am not going to speculate on Tuesday’s weather as I want be optimistic about Monday. Again, unless we are seeing some wet weather Monday morning we should be able to get started and at least get to halfway if not further but the threat of rain and storms increases into the afternoon hours.
