NASCAR night race at Bristol Motor Speedway rain delay: Can they get back racing?

Scattered showers and storms have been the theme all week at Bristol Motor Speedway. It’s no surprise that the Bristol Night race is under a red flag Saturday night due to rain.

The Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway is under a red flag as of 9:30 p.m. ET Saturday night due to rain. Given the weather all week at Bristol Motor Speedway, this was no surprise; delays were very possible.

The question really is can they race the rest of the way tonight or will it be postponed until Sunday? Rain should end between 10 and 10:30 p.m., then drying, which may take 30 minutes and that puts a restart at approximately 11 p.m. Keep in mind all of that has to play out with no delays or any additional rain forming.

As of 9:40 p.m. EDT there is rain about 60 miles away and it is moving at an estimated 25 to 30 mph. That would put it over Bristol Motor Speedway between 11:45 p.m. and Midnight.

It’s not a perfect scenario but NASCAR could get to halfway, potentially. All I can do is tell you what I see from the weather data and give you my best conclusion. At the end it comes to NASCAR and their decision.
