Last week at Pocono Raceway, NASCAR had it’s share of rain, fog and drizzle. Not only did the rain postpone the race to Monday but it also shortened it on Monday. This weekend NASCAR visits its second road course of the season at Watkins Glen International.
2016 NASCAR Watkins Glen weather forecast: Drier than last weekend
Most race weekends rain is a four letter word most fans don’t want to see in a weather forecast, unless it’s a road course. Will rain give fans their wish of rain tires or will Mother Nature once again not deliver this weekend at Watkins Glen.
Last week, the last thing any fan or team wanted to hear about was rain. This weekend with a road course, teams may not want rain but a large amount of fans want it to rain, so they can run on rain tires. Well, Ia have bad news for one of those groups. Fans, it looks like you will need to wait longer to see Sprint Cup cars in rain tires cause we have a drier weather forecast for the weekend.
While the race weekend at Watkins Glen International is mostly dry with partly to mostly sunny skies Friday and Saturday feature a chance of some showers and storms. For Friday, there is just an isolated chance of showers and storms in the afternoon. I don’t anticipate this to be a major issue but it only takes one lone cell to wash out a practice. I say the odds of that happening Friday is around 20 percent.
Saturday will have a chance of rain in the morning but by mid to late morning most of that activity should be done. I’d say there is again a 10 percent chance that anything gets washed out on Saturday.
Sunday will be cooler and mostly sunny, there is no worry of rain at this point. Should be a nice day for a road course race at Watkins Glen International.
