Dale Earnhardt Jr. praises Jimmie Johnson’s ‘bad-ass’ beard

That Jimmie Johnson is now sporting a full beard hasn’t gone unnoticed by Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Recently Jimmie Johnson texted a photo of himself to Dale Earnhardt Jr. while skiing in Aspen, Colo. The picture was of Johnson’s beard and he wanted to show Earnhardt, a beard connoisseur himself.

What NASCAR’s most popular driver saw impressed him.

“(Johnson) said he was getting ready to knock this beard off and I said, ‘You better have that (next month) in Daytona because you get more drafting help. That’s a bad-ass beard and I would keep it if I were you,” Earnhardt said Wednesday on the second day of NASCAR’s preseason media tour in downtown Charlotte, N.C.

Whether Johnson took the advice of his Hendrick Motorsports teammate is unclear. Nonetheless, the defending Cup Series champion appeared with a rather bushy beard during the Tuesday portion of the media tour. And in fact, Johnson’s facial hair game has surpassed Earnhardt’s -- something that hasn’t gone unnoticed.

“I’m certainly pro-beard, and if I’d known he was going to come so strong I would have worked on mine a little more,” Earnhardt said. “I certainly do envy what Jimmie’s got going on.”
