Phoenix NASCAR weather: Hot one in the desert

While the weather won’t be wet for NASCAR this weekend, it will be hot and more like early summer than early spring.

The next leg of the NASCAR-goes-west tour is in Phoenix, Arizona at Phoenix International Raceway. If I told you that we would have plenty of sunshine for a race weekend, you’d think great, no weather problems. Unfortunately, weather could still be a problem for some people.

Temperatures in the desert are expected to be in the low to even middle 90s. While we won’t have the humidity you get later in the season across the Midwest and Southeast, it will still be hot, especially when you consider the fact it is still technically winter.

It will be important for fans at the track to take care of themselves, be safe, and stay hydrated. I know tailgating at the track usually means fun and alcohol, but try to mix in a little more water with your preferred tailgating drink.

Try to find a lighter-colored shirt of your favorite driver — something in a light gray or white. Darker colors absorb heat from the sun and then heat you up. Sunscreen will be an absolute must this weekend. Finally, make sure you find shade and breaks, even a cooling station at the track. And if you start to feel sick, listen to your body and get some medical attention.
