Ryan Blaney knew what he needed to do if he wanted to return to Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s good graces after calling him an offensive name during Sunday’s Monster Energy Cup Series race at Phoenix International Raceway.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. wants Ryan Blaney to give him beer for a month to make nice
Ryan Blaney called Dale Earnhardt Jr. an offensive name during Sunday’s NASCAR race.

What Earnhardt sought was for Blaney to supply him with beer for a month, which Blaney said he would readily provide on the Glass Case of Emotion podcast released Wednesday. The gesture stems from a frustrated Blaney venting to his team after he had difficulty passing Earnhardt during the Camping World 500 saying, “(Expletive) tires are gone, because the (expletive) 88 car is a dick.”
“Heat of the moment people say things in the race car they don’t mean,” Blaney said on the podcast. “Dale is not [a dick.] He’s a great friend of mine, but I was frustrated. I couldn’t pass him, I got upset and called him that. And then I got on my Twitter after the race and dude, I was hated by everybody. It was unbelievable.”
Drivers getting angered with one another during a race then ranting about them to their respective team is not an uncommon occurrence. It happens multiple time during a race -- and the hostilities can occasionally extend post-race.
However, what made the Blaney-Earnhardt exchange unique is not only are the two are friends, they’re also neighbors. The 23-year-old Blaney even regularly visits Earnhardt’s house to have an adult beverage.
Earnhardt, 42, expounded upon his relationship with Blaney during his weekly podcast, The Dale Jr. Download, on Tuesday.
“He rents the house that (Brad) Keselowski used to live in that I sold to Brad,” Earnhardt said. “So he comes over and he hangs out, we drink a little beer after a race or two. Not as often as we would like, but we do spend some time hanging out. … He has an (all-terrain vehicle) or something so I let him ride the trails on the property
“We get along great. I’m happy for him (and) excited about his future. He’s one of the good guys, but I don’t know what that’s all about. He said he was hot in the car, and that when he’s hot, he just can’t control himself.”
Earnhardt has frequently taken to social media this week to jab Blaney in advance of Sunday’s race at Auto Club Speedway, where the weather is expected to be cooler than the mid-90 degree ambient temperatures drivers encounter during the Phoenix race.
