Kyle Larson has the pole position at Sunday’s Auto Club 400 in Fontana. Calif., looking to improve on consecutive second-place finishes in the last three weeks.

Larson finished second in Atlanta, then followed that up with second-place finishes on the first two legs of the west coast swing in Las Vegas and Phoenix. The 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup point leader, Larson won the pole position with a qualifying speed of 187.047 mph on Friday.

Brad Keselowski, the 2015 winner of the Auto Club 400, starts in third position on Sunday thanks to a qualifying speed of 186.500 mph.

The defending champion of this event, Jimmie Johnson — a three-time winner in Fontana -- sat out qualifying on Friday because of a wreck earlier in the morning, and will start in 37th place on Sunday.

Last week’s winner in Phoenix, Ryan Newman, starts in fifth position on Sunday.

The Auto Club 400 will be televised by Fox, with Mike Joy, Darrell Waltrip, Jeff Gordon — also a three-time winner of the Auto Club 400 — and Larry McReynolds on the call beginning at 3:30 p.m. ET. Online streaming of the race will be available through Fox Sports Go.
