Dave Rogers, Daniel Suarez’s crew chief, is taking an indefinite leave of absence due to personal reasons, Joe Gibbs Racing announced Wednesday.
Daniel Suarez’s crew chief, Dave Rogers, taking indefinite leave of absence
Scott Graves named interim crew chief for Suarez’s No. 19 team.

Suarez is a Monster Energy Cup Series rookie and coming off consecutive top-10 finishes. He currently ranks 19th in points after five races. JGR named Scott Graves, who guided Suarez to the 2016 Xfinity Series championship, the interim crew chief for the No. 19 team beginning this weekend at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway.
Rogers has been a Cup Series crew chief in 271 races and won 18 times, all with JGR where he’s worked with drivers Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, and Denny Hamlin on a full-time basis. Last season, Rogers and Edwards won twice and advanced to the four-driver championship playoff round. After Edwards unexpectedly retired during the offseason, JGR promoted the 25-year-old Suarez, the first foreign-born driver to win a NASCAR national touring championship.
JGR will name a replacement for Grave as crew chief of its No. 19 Xfinity team next week.
