Bristol NASCAR race day weather forecast part II: Monday not as wet, but chances remain

Monday won’t be as wet as Sunday, but rain chances remain. The good news is there will be more dry time as the day wears on.

Monday Weather Update 1:15 p.m. EDT - Engines have fired for the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway. It’s dry to start but a passing shower is still possible heading into the rest of the afternoon. Continued odds of a complete race is around 50 to 60 percent.

PREVIOUS UPDATE BELOW

As expected, rain washed out and postponed the Food City 500 Monster Energy Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway. The race will now take place 1 p.m. ET on Fox today. But there is good and bad news when it comes to the Monday’s race.

The Bad: Through Monday morning, some steady light rain is likely over Bristol Motor Speedway. By midday and into the afternoon, the rain becomes more broken. We will see more clusters or even a few passing cells coming out of the east-northeast during the day. These showers could cause some delays from the beginning of the race to the middle of the race. Sadly, Monday is not 100 percent dry.

The Good: Monday is drier than Sunday and kind of reminds me a little of Saturday’s weather situation. Saturday featured chances of rain, and rain did cause a lengthy red flag, but they were able to restart and finish the Xfinity race. Those showers were broken and scattered in nature. That means they had more breaks and stretches of dry weather. We could see a similar situation on Monday for the Monster Energy Cup Series. Chancees of racing Monday are between 50 to 60 percent, and those are the same odds going into Monday night (if weather forces an extended delay). They are also the same odds of seeing a complete race on Monday.

Rain is still possible Monday at Bristol Motor Speedway but there is also more dry time, especially later into the afternoon and evening.
