Why does Joey Logano have the name Cameron Curtis on his car?

The NASCAR driver has a special visitor this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Joey Logano’s No. 22 car is racing with two names on it during Monday’s rain-delayed NASCAR race at Bristol Motor Speedway. One is Logano’s, which is above the driver-side door, and the other is Cameron Curtis.

Curtis is a 5-year-old who lives with hydrocephalus, cerebral palsy, and severe vision impairment. Through a program created by the Joey Logano Foundation, Curtis is a guest of Logano this weekend at Bristol. In addition to having his name on Logano’s car, Curtis also attended the pre-race drivers meeting, met other drivers, is watching the Food City 500 from a seat atop Logano’s pit box, and he and Logano have matching firesuits.

Logano started the JL Kids Crew after attending the funeral of 5-year-old NASCAR fan last November. The Team Penske driver said in an interview shortly after the memorial that being there left a lasting impression.

“That is probably one of the hardest things I have ever done,” Logano said. “It was definitely eye-opening and it puts life into perspective.”

Curtis is the first child to attend a race as part of the JL Kids Crew program.
