Michigan NASCAR weather forecast: More dry than wet

Chance of a passing shower or storm may not be as bad as some might think at Michigan International Speedway this weekend.

While the weather forecast for the NASCAR weekend at Michigan International Speedway is a complicated one, it is more dry than wet both Saturday and Sunday. It appears any rain activity we see at Michigan International Speedway will be spotty in nature with more dry time during the day than wet.

Saturday will feature mostly cloudy skies with the chance of an isolated shower or storm into the afternoon. The threat of rain and storms increases as the afternoon wears on, and some of the storms late Saturday into Saturday night could be strong to severe. Most of the rain and storm activity is likely Saturday night into Sunday morning but after and before any on-track activity is expected to run.

Showers and storms overnight Saturday could linger into Sunday morning and maybe into midday. The scheduled race time for the FireKeepers Casino 400 is at 3 p.m. — that would give NASCAR and crews plenty of time to get the track ready if the rain ended on the later side of things. Although a stray shower or storm is possible Sunday afternoon, I am not overly worried about rain for Sunday.

Odds of racing Saturday’s Xfinity Irish Hills 250 and NASCAR Monster Energy Cup FireKeepers Casino 400 are around 85 to 90 percent.
