Erik Jones will start on the pole position on Saturday night, looking for a win at the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race in Bristol, Tenn. that would qualify the rookie for a spot in the 2017 NASCAR playoffs.

Thirteen drivers have already qualified for the 16-car playoff field, with three spots up for grabs and three races to go before NASCAR’s postseason begins.

To qualify, a driver must win and be in the top 30 in points. Any remaining open spots will be based on points. At the moment, Jones is 16th in points. Jones earned the top spot for Saturday’s race thanks to averaging 128.082 mph in qualifying action on Friday at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Chase Elliott and Matt Kenseth, who like Jones need a win to get in, are ranked seventh and ninth, respectively, in points. Elliott qualified in fourth position for Saturday, with Kenseth fifth.

NBC will televise the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race beginning at 7:30 p.m. PT, with Rick Allen, Steve Letarte and Jeff Burton on the call. Online streaming of the race is available through NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app.
