NASCAR at the Glen 2017: Want to see rain tires? Probably not this weekend

Showers and storms Friday may be the only significant chance of rain for NASCAR at Watkins Glen.

A cold front slides into Western New York and the Finger Lakes region Friday afternoon and evening. Storms and showers will increase, and some storms Friday night could be severe with damaging winds and hail. Campers around Watkins Glen International need to be prepared.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Watkins Glen International until 9 p.m. Friday.

Most of the showers and storms move through late Friday night into early Saturday morning. There is a chance of a few lingering showers Saturday morning to about midday. The threat is low, and I don’t see much of an issue for the Xfinity Series Zippo 200.

Odds of racing the Xfinity Series Zippo 200 are 100 percent.

For those wanting to watch the Monster Energy Cars race in the rain on a road course, Sunday is not your day. It may be the only time there is disappointment I don’t have rain in the forecast. We are going to be comfortable with temperatures in the 70s and sunny skies on Sunday for the Monster Energy NASCAR Series I Love New York 355 at the Glen. Odds of racing are also 100 percent.
