At first glance, ESPN’s tweet on Thursday evening about LeBron James’ most recent comments about Cavalier fans seems like the kind of detonation you just knew he’s been waiting months to say.

Whoa. Upon reading that I fully expected to click through and read a scathing, scorched-Earth diatribe about how much James hates Cleveland now and can’t wait to drop 372 points on them next time he’s in town.
Only...then you read the article and, well...not so much.
“If I was a fan and I was on the outside looking in, I could be upset a little bit if one of my favorite players left,” James said. “Or if I felt like he betrayed us or whatever the case may be. But you have to get over it.”
So yeah, he does say the words “get over it” in succession, but certainly not with the implied tone of that Twitter headline. Score one for sneaky copy-writing.
LeBron’s comments do indeed barely mask his contempt for Cavalier fans who disagreed with his departure. Still, he is able to reel himself in just enough to not sound completely like a guy who thinks fans are interchangeable, emotional train-wrecks who should still fork over $160 for his shoes.
Get over it, folks. But please, buy a pair of Nikes before you do.
