Bon Voyage, Bubba Chuck: Allen Iverson’s Officially Headed Overseas

It's official: After weeks of rumors, Allen Iverson is taking his talents to Turkey. Yahoo! Sports broke the news that Iverson is expected to sign with Besiktas, a Turkish pro team, for $4 million over the next two years.

Who knows whether this is the last we’ve seen of Allen Iverson, but we can only someone jumps at the chance to squeeze a reality show out of this whole situation. Aren’t you imagining Iverson and his entourage getting into heated arguments with some petrified kebab vendor?

Maybe that’s just me.

As for Iverson's legacy at this point, that's a much bigger discussion that'll have to wait for another day. In the meantime, Sports Illustrated's Andy Gray reminded us of Gary Smith's outstanding profile of Iverson from back in 2001, and it's worth a read. For the Larry Brown stories, for the glimpse at Iverson in his prime, and of course, for the immaculate conception story which blew my mind as a 14 year-old, and remains one of the craziest things I've ever read in Sports Illustrated. Say what you want about AI, but there's never been a player or personality quite like him. Get ready, Turkey.

One more question: Can he bring Stephen A. Smith with him?
