Details continue to emerge regarding the type of banned substance WNBA star Diana Taurasi tested positive for while playing in Turkey. Though Taurasi’s lawyer, Howard Jacobs, wouldn’t go into great deal, he did say the drug was neither recreational or a steroid while confirming it was a “mild stimulant.” The news quietly leaked in a Turkish paper earlier on Thursday before hitting the United States in an AP report Thursday night.
Diana Taurasi Banned Substance Reportedly A ‘Mild Stimulant’
“We’re taking it one step at a time,” Jacobs said. “I’d rather not say what it is at this stage, they’ve only tested the ‘A’ sample. Somehow it leaked over in Turkey. We’re waiting for the ‘B’ sample to be tested. We’ve had some difficulty with getting a date so far, mostly because of the holidays. We’re hoping to get it as soon as we can.”
A non-recreational, non-steroid mild stimulant narrows down the drug significantly, giving us a good idea of what she tested positive for. In this case, the information points towards Adderall or a similar derivative, a prescription drug used to treat attention deficit disorder.
