An unusually cold Christmas Day? Not a worry for Kevin Durant. The Thunder’s star is white-hot in Oklahoma City, and may be heading for an all-time great Christmas performance.
Thunder Vs. Nuggets, NBA Christmas Day: Kevin Durant Lights Up Denver In Third Quarter
Durant’s got 40 points through three quarters against the Nuggets, and helped the Thunder take back the lead with 21 in the third quarter. Oklahoma City enters the fourth period up 88-85.
Durant is doing damage both from the field and at the line. He’s 13-of-18 on the night, and made three of five three-pointers, but has also sunk 11 of 13 free throws.
The Thunder may need Durant to keep scoring to stay ahead. Russell Westbrook (15 points) and James Harden (16 points) join Durant in double figures for Oklahoma City, while the Nuggets have five players with nine or more points on the night.
But, then, Durant’s pretty good at scoring. And if he has a great fourth quarter, he could challenge for an all-time Christmas scoring record. Bernard King dropped 60 on the Nets in 1984 to set the mark. More likely for Durant? A run at the record for points scored in a win, held by Rick Barry, who scored 50 in a Warriors victory in 1966.
