The Houston Rockets wasted a perfectly good 45 points from Kevin Martin in losing to the Portland Trail Blazers for the second time this week. Portland won 103-100, moving to 19-17 on the season.
Kevin Martin’s 45 Points Go To Waste As Blazers Edge Rockets
Martin’s performance was something incredible, as the seventh-year pro hit 13-18 from the floor and 13-15 from the line. Six of his makes came from behind the three-point line. He ended up scoring 1.82 points per possession, which is fairly despicable and wonderful. Note that if a team takes nothing but two-pointers and never misses, they score 2.0 points per possession. Martin was pretty close to that ideal.
LaMarcus Aldridge has been carrying the Blazers through just about all of their wins of late, and had 27 points in this one. He played center quite a lot, which isn't so much of a problem against the thin-up-front Rockets. Nicolas Batum played 38 minutes on a bad ankle, and Wesley Matthews (4-12) had a third straight poor shooting night.
Portland’s win could prove vital in a few months, as it gives the Blazers a tiebreaker advantage over the Rockets. The teams are currently battling over the No. 8 seed in the West.
