Deron Williams Gives ‘90 Percent Chance’ He Stays With Nets

When we all said not to worry last week when Deron Williams said he would not be signing an extension with the New Jersey Nets this season, we meant it. Williams had no financial incentive to take an extension when he'd stand to add $30 million to that contract by becoming a free agent in 2012 and signing a new free agent deal with the Nets.

The All-Star point guard reiterated the basis for his decision in an interview with WFAN on Monday, and NBA.com John Schuhmann tweeted some more D-Will candy for Nets fans (via PBT):

Williams is asked what’s the % chance he stays with the Nets: “I’d probably say like 90 percent.”

Keeping Williams would be huge for the Nets as the team enters Brooklyn for the start of the 2012-13 season. To ensure that 90 percent probability becomes reality, though, GM Billy King needs to vastly improve the rotation around Williams. That begins Friday as free agency opens.
