Justin Bieber, Bill Simmons Headline NBA All-Star Celeb Game
The NBA released the line-up for the 2011 All-Star Celebrity Game, a regrettable and typically unwatchable event held in the shadow of the fun and delightful Rookie Challenge on All-Star Friday. But this year’s rosters just might help the Celeb Game break the mold and be entertaining.
Why? Two words: Justin. Bieber.
The superstar teen, who has a 3D movie about him, will grace the court with former (read: old) NBA superstars Magic Johnson, Scottie Pippen and, with bells and exclamation marks, Bill Walton. In addition to the storied and glamorous, ESPN columnist Bill Simmons will also participate.
A.C. Green, Jalen Rose, Chris Mullin and B.J. Armstrong are among the other former NBA players involved, and Jason Alexander, Common and Jimmy Kimmel headline the celebs. If you think I'm overhyping the presence of Bieber, note that in the NBA's official press release on the line-up, Bieber's name is second, after only Magic. Yep, even the NBA knows the world is more interested in seeing Bieber play ball than Pippen or Walton. (For what's it worth, Simmons is not the last name listed. The ephemeral "current WNBA stars" takes that honor.
UPDATE: Simmons and Kimmel will actually pick and coach the two teams. I believe that means that we won’t be able to see Lauren Jackson destroy The Sports Guy on the block. <sad face>
