O.J. Mayo Trade To Pacers May Have Missed Deadline

The Memphis Grizzlies reached an agreement to trade O.J. Mayo to the Indiana Pacers for Josh McRoberts and a first-round pick, but Mike Wells of the Indianapolis Star reports that the deal may have missed the NBA's 3 PM Eastern trade deadline.

The Grizzlies had reportedly fielded offers on Mayo for weeks, as the No. 3 pick in the 2008 NBA Draft had suffered some real indignities this season. Mayo fell out of the starting lineup around midseason as coach Lionel Hollins turned to Xavier Henry, Sam Young and Tony Allen. Then he was involved in a fight with Allen on a team flight around New Year's. Finally, he was suspended 10 games for testing positive for a banned substance. His trade value couldn't possibly get lower.

The Pacers could use a wing shooter with the raw talent of Mayo, and it’d be unfortunate if the deal fell through. McRoberts also figured to help the Grizzlies’ depth up front as the team pushes for a playoff post in the West.
