Celtics Trade Marquis Daniels To Kings

The Boston Celtics completed a bench makeover (for now) on Thursday by trading Marquis Daniels to the Sacramento Kings for cash, reports Ken Berger of CBSSports.com. Daniels was seriously injured in an early February game against the Orlando Magic, having suffered a spinal bruise that caused him to collapse after a collision with Gilbert Arenas. The Celtics originally announced Daniels would miss a month, but there have been reports he's out for the remainder of the season.

The Celtics made one blockbuster trade on Thursday, sending Kendrick Perkins and Nate Robinson to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic. Boston's other two moves, including a deal with that sent Semih Erden and Luke Harangody to the Cleveland Cavaliers for a future second-round pick, seemed focused on decreasing the Celtics' luxury tax bill and opening up roster spots for potential free agents.

Daniels has the right to veto any trade by virtue of his status as a player on a one-year deal with early Bird rights at stake. It’s unclear whether Boston worked out a deal with Daniels to receive his OK on any move. The trade gets the Sacramento Kings above the league’s salary floor, which is set at 75 percent of the salary cap.
